Royal Opera House
Arts

The Royal Opera House (ROH) channel is one of the most subscribed-to channels of any performing arts institution in the world. ROH offers its audience never-seen-before footage including secrets from famous productions, showcasing Royal Ballet rehearsals and explaining how costumes for The Royal Opera are made. Full-length productions from the ROH archive are also streamed on the channel. Since its creation in 2007, the channel has amassed over 252 million views and has offered people around the world access to this iconic British theatre. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, ROH launched #OurHouseToYourHouse - a programme of online content including weekly broadcasts - which has generated more than 9 million views of full-length material. These included streams of productions such as Jonathan Miller's acclaimed Royal Opera staging of Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte, and The Royal Ballet's classic The Sleeping Beauty, set to Tchaikovsky's memorable score. There are also shorter videos to enjoy, such as a specially produced ‘socially distanced performance’ of the ‘Hallelujah’ Chorus from Handel’s Messiah.

YouTube allows us to pull back the curtain and offer audiences around the world a glimpse behind the scenes at one of the world's most famous theatres. Whether they're new to opera and ballet or have loved them all their lives, we love giving them the opportunity to experience our work.

YouTube is a platform that allows creators to express their ideas freely and gives creatives ownership over the projects they pursue. It has allowed me, and many others, to become self-employed and enjoy an income based off of work we love doing. YouTube has become a home for a wealth of diversified content and I hope it continues to be so for years to come.
Tom Scott
Entertainment Learning

Tom Scott created his eponymous channel in 2006 and over the course of 14 years has built an audience of 3.43 million subscribers, generating over 750 million views. The channel features videos exploring science, amazing places, and other interesting topics -- with occasional stops in linguistics, computer science, and even quiz shows. Tom has tested zip lines that go round corners, investigated the most northern part of Iceland and looked into why we move our hands while we talk. Last year Tom also put his programming know-how into action with an automatically-updating view count in one video's title - 26 million views, and counting! These are just some examples of the fascinating and diverse content you can find on Tom Scott’s channel.

Running this channel has taken me to some incredible places. I've been fortunate enough to fly with the Red Arrows, travel to the High Arctic, and float in zero gravity. Those are memories that'll stay with me for a long, long time.
Culture

Football fans and a love for Arsenal Football Club sit at the heart of AFTV. The channel is as authentic as its fans, whose voices fill each video, whether it’s a debate, interview, or post-match debrief. The platform has become an influential community not only on YouTube (with content loved by over 1.3 million subscribers), but also across sports media more widely. The heated debates and sometimes controversial views of those featured on the channel are frequently a focus of articles in some of the UK’s most widely-read newspapers and online forums. The channel prides itself on its fan-centricity - a subject more poignant than ever - and with an AFTV podcast and dedicated merchandise, there is no shortage of content for fans to enjoy. The channel has grown to be a passionate and globally recognised online community, one truly “for the fans, and by the fans”. In January 2021, AFTV founder Robbie Lyle gave an interview to Forbes where he discussed how he turned AFTV from a channel into a multi-million pound global business. AFTV has evolved into a media house that employs 10 full-time members of staff and generates revenue through advertising, sponsorship deals and merchandise sales.

It has been an incredible journey building the AFTV channel on YouTube since our inception in 2012 and a journey that we have continued to embrace as the channel has evolved in recent years. YouTube's position as a content-sharing platform is unparalleled as it allows creators like us to share our content to a global audience, helping to connect with people from all across the world on a meaningful level on a daily basis.
Health & Fitness

In case you haven’t heard of him, Joe Wicks is one of the UK's leading fitness coaches. Joe started posting on YouTube in 2014 as TheBodyCoachTV when he became a personal trainer and his brother encouraged him to use the platform to reach more people. Now nearly 7 years and 350 workouts later, Joe has one of the biggest YouTube fitness channels with 2.75 million subscribers and his own private online fitness platform. Whether you are 7 or 70, there are workouts on the channel designed for you. Joe continues to focus on YouTube as he believes that fitness advice and guidance should be accessible to everyone. Joe Wicks truly became a household name over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, where The Body Coach TV became ‘'the home of home workouts'. Joe began a new series ‘PE with Joe’ where he streamed live lessons every day during the first lockdown for children unable to attend their usual PE classes. PE with Joe has received over 100m views and raised over £600k for charity! Away from YouTube, but building on his success, Joe has released eight healthy-lifestyle focused books and built a prominent career across TV and broadcasting.

I love YouTube because it allows me to connect with people of all ages, from all over the world and give them content, which will hopefully inspire them to be fitter, healthier and happier. I'm most proud of 'PE with Joe', which started during lockdown. We streamed live workouts every day during the first lockdown for school kids who were stuck at home without access to PE, and the whole nation joined in - we even broke a Guinness world record for the largest live streamed fitness class.

We started making videos on YouTube back in 2010 to share fun around food with a group of our friends - in the years that have followed, that group of friends has now grown into millions of food lovers across the globe who contribute to one of the largest conversations about food in the world, still taking place right here on YouTube.

On her main channel, she shares updates to her 2.89M subscribers on fashion trends, tips and finds, offering advice on everything from how to lay wigs, the best shapewear to buy and open and honest commentary about childbirth and self-care. Patricia’s second channel, The Break, is full of real talk about the highs and lows of investing, how to budget and how to avoid mistakes. You don’t need to be an economist to understand Patricia’s helpful tips, but with everything from crypto to side hustles and property investments, Patricia gives her 430K+ subscribers plenty to think about! In February 2019, Patricia released her autobiographical self-help book ‘Heart and Hustle’ published by HarperCollins UK. She is also currently working on a new four-part YouTube Originals series which will share the stories of some respected and influential women from across the globe.

My channels offer me the chance to share my passion with a wider community. I love trying things out first, so my audience doesn't have too! It's especially rewarding to hear how some of my finance tips have led to real change for people’s lives.
