Home Grown Garden, run by Katrina, documents her journey of growing her allotment garden. Situated at St Ann’s Allotments in Nottingham which is thought to be the oldest and largest allotment in Europe. Katrina shares tips and advice on how to grow a range of fruit, vegetables, flowers and herbs through organic methods. She takes the viewer through the seasons, guiding on when to pick, when to plant, and showing the incredible evolution of nature as the year goes by. Katrina started as a complete beginner, both on YouTube and in the allotment, and has now achieved a wide following and over 40,000 subscribers and is a trusted source for gardening tips around the world!

When I first started my YouTube channel it was used primarily to document the changes of my allotment garden – I never expected to become so involved in conversations with like-minded gardeners all across the world! It’s amazing to see what everybody else is growing, to escape into green spaces, and pick up lots of tips and advice. The YouTube gardening community is such a welcoming and supportive space that keeps me creating new content each month.

Learning

James Bowater (Mr B) started his channel in 2016 to produce educational content for secondary school children in the UK who were studying for GCSE and BTEC Physical Education courses. Over the years as his teaching roles have changed, he has readjusted the direction of his channel and developed several video series for GCSE Geography students. James uses his unique style to create an alternative approach to education and to appeal to different learning styles and preferences. James’ recent projects include a series called Geography Basics, which provides basic geographical content and skills that students often revisit throughout their studies as well as a weekly Sunday Morning Coffee GCSE Geography revision series.

I love how by using YouTube, I have been able to reach and support thousands of secondary school children across the UK with their studies. I have been able to transfer my teaching from the classroom to an online presence where students can revisit my educational content again and again.

With Mrwhosetheboss’ approach, consumer technology has never been so entertaining! Covering everything from popular smartphones, to the biggest ever product fails, Arun’s passion for all things tech is contagious. Arun started his channel as a teenager in 2011 and it’s been growing ever since. Mrwhosetheboss now has over 6 million subscribers and over a billion views, making Arun the UK's most prominent tech YouTuber, with a tech focused community of over 7 million people. Viewers leave Arun’s channel pondering their next big tech purchase, and reflecting on videos which truly make them see technology in a different light.

Within a few short weeks of getting my first ever Android phone at the age of 15, I realised that I was completely obsessed with it. I'd spend sleepless nights configuring it, optimising it, and learning how to squeeze every drop of performance I could out of it. One day I decided I had enough knowledge that I should share it with people, and thus, my first ever YouTube video was made. I never looked back - I made it my goal to become UK's most subscribed Tech YouTuber, and it's tough to believe I'm now saying this, but I'm well past that and aiming for the number 1 spot globally!

I’ve always been a strong believer in creating your own opportunities, and YouTube has enabled me to do just that. I didn’t need any specific qualifications or experience, I just created content I was passionate about and that people wanted to watch and YouTube gave me a place to reach those people. Over 9 years later, I am still creating content and reaching new people everyday.

Ever wanted to be an inventor? Too scared about accidentally ruining your stuff or setting your house on fire? Fear not! Colin Furze is dedicated to testing out crazy schemes and taking those risks for his viewers. Colin is the ultimate inventor and gadget man, creating everything from a homemade hoverbike to a medieval trebuchet, an underground bunker in his back garden to a jet-powered bicycle made with pulse-jet engines. Each YouTube video pushes the limits as Colin shows his fans how to build something extraordinary. Colin has turned his love for invention into a full-time profession, creating his own merchandise range and publishing a children’s book, ‘This Book Isn’t Safe’. He has built an impressive community of 11 million subscribers on YouTube, more commonly known as the ‘Furze Army’, helping him to achieve over 1.3 billion views on his channel.

Being on YouTube is amazing, you feel like you’re really part of something bigger than the videos themselves. I love inventing things because you never know what might happen - recently I made a bike out of hydraulics and it should never have worked, but it did!
