Lindybeige
History

Nikolas Lloyd accidentally became YouTube’s ‘swords guy’ after he set up his channel in 2008 to showcase his videos on human evolution, but he soon found his audience after one video on swords went viral. His channel, Lindybeige, has grown in size and scope, educating and entertaining budding historians everywhere. 1.07 million military history aficionados are now subscribed, and view his eclectic lectures and comedy sketches on everything from British tanks of WW1 to the lives of Roman soldiers in the Punic Wars.

I spent years trying to break into television, and was told that my ideas for programmes ‘would not work’, and now, thanks to YouTube, I can make whatever video I want without needing a television commissioner to approve, and I get more viewers than most television programmes.
Stacey Reay
Learning

As a qualified teacher, Stacey Reay created a channel dedicated to helping young people succeed in their studies of both English literature and English language. Stacey believes that education should be accessible to all, so she makes content for learners at all levels, using etymology to deepen understanding of individual words and their roots. Stacey’s videos include revision tips, excerpt explanations and top facts about authors from Shakespeare to Charles Dickens. Stacey’s YouTube success has allowed her to set up a website for masterclasses and revision courses, all in line with the National Curriculum.

I love how many students you can reach via this platform whether they be within my school or round the world. I want to help students of all levels achieve the best they can whilst also helping them to gain a deeper understanding of the texts and words they are studying. My YouTube journey so far has created opportunities for both myself and the young people I reach.
Entertainment

All properties require a bit of TLC from time to time, but the truth is that most of us don’t know where to start when it comes to fixing a loose floor tile or installing a new water tank. Thankfully, Andy Mac - AKA Gosforth Handyman - is here to help. Andy has been repairing and maintaining properties for years and in 2016, he decided to start filming a few of his projects, which proved hugely popular with subscribers. On his channel, Andy documents a range of common renovation challenges and what’s involved in fixing them. Today, he boasts 160,000 subscribers, and his videos have become a bona fide reference point for tradespeople and amateur DIYers alike. Andy’s success on YouTube has allowed him to expand his focus online and, alongside his wife, he now operates a media creation business sharing independent and authentic articles focusing on everything from DIY tutorials to advice on running a small business taken from his second YouTube channel, the Small Business Toolbox.

Before YouTube, I was constantly asked by clients how to do various simple repair jobs. Eventually I thought I’d just make videos explaining how I do them. It started with ‘how to use a tape measure properly’ and all grew from there! I love sharing tips I’ve picked up over the years and equally learn so much from my amazing YouTube community!
