Frequently asked questions
Viewers in eligible countries using the YouTube mobile app, who are at least 18 years old, can purchase Jewels and send gifts to eligible creators during a live stream.
US creators who are in the YouTube Partner Program and have accepted and meet the requirements for the Virtual Items Module in YouTube Studio can earn.
Currently, live streams direct from YouTube or from third-party streaming software will be eligible for gifts. When using third-party streaming software, you may not always see the gifts sent. To see gifts, you can monitor your live stream from the YouTube mobile app, or view gifts as system messages in the chat feed from Live Control Room (LCR). As part of this program, you will receive access to trial our 3P encoder. We will send instructions over the next week or so.
Creators who enable gifts need to comply with the terms set out in the Virtual Items Module, the corresponding Virtual Items Program Policies, the YouTube Terms of Service, and YouTube channel monetization policies. Also, vertical live streams with gifts must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and any terms and conditions that apply to live streams.
Super Chat and Super Stickers are ways to connect fans with creators during live streams and Premieres. Viewers can buy Super Chats to highlight their message within live chat or Super Stickers to get an animated image that surfaces in live chat.
Super Thanks lets creators earn revenue from viewers who want to show extra gratitude for their Shorts and long-form videos.
Viewers can buy a fun animation called Super Thanks on a long-form video or Short. The one-time animation is only shown to the buyer over the top of the long-form video or Short. As an added bonus, buyers also get to post a distinct, colourful and customisable comment in the comments section. Super Thanks is available at a few different price points for viewers to choose from.
Super Thanks eligibility
To be eligible for Super Thanks, make sure that you first meet the minimum requirements for fan funding features. Then confirm that you fit the other criteria outlined below for Super Thanks:
You live in one of the available locations.
- You (and your MCN) have accepted and are complying with our terms and policies (including the relevant Commerce Product Module).
- Channel isn't set as Made for Kids and doesn't have a significant number of videos set as made for kids or ineligible
Some music channels may not be eligible for Super Thanks. For example, music channels under SRAV contract are not eligible right now.
If you have access, the Supers tab will surface in the Earn section of YouTube Studio.
